Giving Back – Protecting the Hunuas

In memory of Steve Neary, for whom this event was first created in 2022, we are proud to give back each year to help protect the incredible environment we run in.

Two of Steve’s greatest loves were the untamed natural beauty of the Hunua Ranges and the kōkako bird. So when we learned about the work of the Friends of Hunua Ranges, partnering with them as our event charity was a no brainer. Their mission—protecting and restoring the bush, controlling pests, and supporting the return and long-term success of the North Island kōkako—is both inspiring and vital. And by recent accounts, they are doing an outstanding job.

Each year, the event makes a direct donation to Friends of Hunua Ranges to support their important work, with total contributions now exceeding $3,000. When you enter, you’ll also have the opportunity to add an additional donation and be part of making a real difference.
